Chipper Jones verse David Wright: which version should it have been ??? (rollover MLB 2007 cover) In 2007, Mr. Wright was selected as the starting third baseman for the National League All-Star team. Rightfully so, David Wright had a wonderful season for the New York Mets and will be one of the bright spots for the New York Mets moving forward. With that said, I argue that Chipper Jones has been playing in the shadow of Mr. Wright ever since his emergence onto the scene a couple years ago. I am not sure as to whether it is in result of being in the spotlight in New York City or his approval rating with the fans.... all I can speak of is what I see with my own eyes and truly believe Chipper Jones will be treated as a second class ball-player moving forward. Specifically, no matter how good of a season Chipper has, he will never get the credit he deserves. Obviously, David Wright is young and has a bright future ahead of him. The same cannot be said about Chipper Jones. In my opinion, it now seems to be an every year routine when the All-Star Voting comes: Baseball Fans think in their head the wonderful "household name" in David Wright and decide who the 3rd baseman should be. In result, this leaves Chipper Jones chugging along against the inevitable no matter how well he will play the first half. If you looked at Chippers midway point numbers in 2007, you'll see that they were: .329 with 15 HR and 41 RBI's while playing in only 1/3 of a season. With these statistics, a full season would bring Chipper on pace for approx .320 42 HR and 120 RBI's. Obviously, I am not stating that these numbers would realistically have occured, but would it be so farfetched to claimt that Chipper's reputation has taken a huge hit sicne the emergence of David Wright, and even with superb numbers at any point in the season, the eyes will look to Mr. David Wright first. Is the world in bed with David Wright ???
