*New* Reading Classic for all Braves fans: Synopsis: Dr. Kyle and Mr Davies was published in 2005 and is one of the best known of all Atlanta Braves novels. It concerns the way in which an individual is made up of contrary pitching performances and desires: some good and some aweful. Through the curiosity of Roger McDowell, a pitching coach, we learn of the ugly and violent Mr Davies and his odd connection to the respectable Dr Kyle. After a deadly and violent performance in the 1st inning, a spectacular 8-inning gem follows. The unfortunate victims in the first game are members of his team, the Atlanta Braves. The murder weapon was, unbelievably his right arm, in such McDowell had given total faith in. As such, Bobby Cox and Roger McDowell become entangled in the strange world of Dr. Kyle who it transpires has created a fixed regimine of pitching like Nolan Ryan one day and Roberto Hernandez directly thereafter. Such actions separate his good and evil natures - purifying Dr. Kyle himself but with the ghastly side effect of periods spent as the monstrous Davies. We follow McDowell as he investigates with Cox, Smoltz and Shuerholtz, the seeming contradictions in Kyle's actions and his alternating ineffective-like existence on the mound.
